BRIEF: Baker to tap former mental health commish as HHS boss

Nov. 21--Gov.-elect Charlie Baker is poised to tap Marylou Sudders, the state's former mental health commissioner, as his secretary of Health and Human Services -- the huge agency that includes the troubled Department of Children and Families and the Department of Transitional Assistance, both of which Baker has vowed to reform.

Sudders, a professor of health and mental health at Boston College'sGraduate School of Social Work, was offered the post in recent days, according to a Baker adviser. A formal announcement is expected as early as today.

Sudders is the first woman to be named to Baker's cabinet, and would take on the role Baker held during his tenure under former Gov. Bill Weld.
