Letter: Where do we start in stopping Chicago violence?

The Herald News - 2/12/2017

To the Editor:

In regards to Mr. Thomas Cechner's letter "Will Trump's plan to bring feds to Chicago work?" bringing in the feds to assist Superintendent Johnson with technical support in reducing the violence in Chicago would be a good start, but the National Guard could create more violence with the possibility of the loss of more human lives.

The issues are an age-old problem and people in cities can relate to that. The beginning is the guidance of minors in the home for respecting of their peers, including law enforcement by their parents. Keep them in school, with supportive functions to keep them off the streets and gang involvement.

Yes and some of the problems with the parents involved in gang affiliation. This has also been viewed on news broadcasts.

Law enforcement has requested numerous times that the community get involved by turning in the names of the offenders so they can be removed from the streets to stop their control and selling their drugs.

In the news, viewing the trial of the "Hobo 5," a jurist's face was blurred out and he stated that he was afraid of testifying in fear of his own life, including his family. These gang members know who the law enforcement officers are, lawyers, including the judges and where they live. I can see why there is a threat for our judicial branch to put these gang members away.

And again, bringing in the National Guard is the last resort. We don't need any more loss of human lives.

And, again, the question is "where do we start?"
