Dr. Seuss birthday celebration on Thursday

MARICOPA - Come be part of the seventh annual Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 2, at the Maricopa Public Library, 41600 W. Smith-Enke Road. There will be lots of Seuss-based activities, crafts, photo opportunities, trivia contests and stories.

Instant Piano for hopelessly busy people

On Monday, March 6, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.Casa Grande Parks and Recreation will be offering a popular class called Instant Piano for Busy People. Craig Coffman will teach "How to Play Piano in Three Hours" workshop. He has extensive experience as a professional pianist and music director. 'The Streets Don't Love You Back' fundraiser event

Rob and Lucinda Boyd invite you to 'The Streets Don't Love You Back' fundraiser event at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 18 at the Phoenix Center for the Arts, 1202 N. Third St., Phoenix. Doors open at 4 p.m. for the special screening of "Gangster's America's Most Evil, Best Friends Episode" in which Arizona resident Rob Boyd appeared and was featured on national TV in 2016. He was once a well-known Detroit drug kingpin, now he and his wife Lucinda educates against that life. This event focuses on anti-gangs, drugs, violence and abuse along with promoting the elimination of recidivism, helping with prison reform and gapping the bridge with law enforcement and communities. Highway 347 Clean-up

The Journey United Methodist Church is sponsoring a Highway 347 Clean-up with a free hot dog from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 4 at O'Reilly's Auto Parts parking lot. Journey Church is providing a free Sabrett's hot dog at Al's Hotdog Stand. Stop by and help make Maricopa beautiful and enjoy a free hot dog.

Lions Club Golf Tournament

The Maricopa Lions Club will be holding its second annual fundraising golf tournament on Saturday, April 8 at Southern Dunes Golf Course, 48456 W. Highway 238. The 4-person scrambles entry fee is $100 per player and includes green fee, cart, range balls and lunch. Hole sponsors are also much needed. Character Counts Essay Contest

Pinal County Juvenile Court and its Community Advisory Board (CAB) is sponsoring their 10th Annual Character Counts Essay Contest. Essays will be based on one of the six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, citizenship, caring, responsibility and fairness. Youth (grades K-12) may participate, including those who are home schooled. Students may enter as part of a classroom activity, through their youth club, church group or individually. There will be a special awards ceremony early May at the Pinal County Superior Courthouse in Florence to honor the winning entries. Deadline is March 1. Shamrock Farms tours

STANFIELD - Arizona's hometown dairy Shamrock Farms, 40034 W. Clayton, will be offering more public tours in March during spring break to give families the opportunity to experience how our pure and fresh milk gets from the farm to table. Tours are offered at 1 and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. The one hour guided tour gives guests the chance to get up close and personal with 10,000 cows, visit a milking barn, an interactive play zone, a calf nursery and more.

Spokescow Roxie welcomes schools and the general public to Shamrock Farms to learn about farming and dairy manufacturing as the open air tram takes visitors around the 320-acre farm. Reservations required. Tickets $6 for children and $9 for adults with kids under age 2 are free. Lunch is available for purchase. Flying schedule for Casa Grande RC Flyers

The Casa Grande RC Flyers is now on their winter flying schedule. Visitors are welcome to watch the flying on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings starting about 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on most non windy mornings. The club also welcomes guests at their Fun Fly contests and swap meets on the second Saturday of each month through March. Food service is offered. Addiction recovery groups meet

A Ray of Hope meeting of Narcotics Anonymous meets on Sundays and Mondays at 7 p.m. at Maricopa Community Church located at 44977 W. Hathaway Avenue. Enter through door on right side of building) and Thursdays at 7 p.m. at the Ak-Chin Social Services Bldg.

Maricopa Celebrate Recovery is a Christian based recovery group for a multitude of hurts, habits and hang-ups. This group meets on Tuesday at Maricopa Community Church located at 44977 W. Hathaway Avenue. From 5-7 p.m. there is an open mic, coffee and music time and from 7-9 p.m. there is general group assembly and small groups.

Copa Seniors meeting and events

Copa Seniors, a social club that is open to all seniors 55 plus who reside in Maricopa and the surrounding area, meets the second Thursday of the month at 9:30 a.m., at the Copa Center, 44585 W. Honeycutt Ave.

On the fourth Thursday of the month, the group meets for socializing at 9:30 a.m. at the Copa Center, where tables are set up for a variety of cards, games and conversation. Holiday parties and events are in the works and all seniors are encouraged to help plan and attend these events.

Farmers Market open twice a week

The Maricopa Farmers market is open Fridays from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 7 a.m. until noon. Farm fresh eggs and local produce from SLAW, Bootleggers BBQ sauce, Gattens local Honey, Hot food from Soul Food Shak and Hot SOS taco truck are available to purchase.

American Legion Post 133 meetings

The local American Legion Post 133 holds it regular meetings on the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Maricopa Veterans Center located at 44240 W Maricopa-Casa Grande Hwy. Meetings present topics of interest that support veterans and the community.

FOTL has several ongoing events at Public Library

The Friends of the Maricopa Public Library is an all volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to the service and support of the library with reading programs, fundraisers, book club, scholarships, and book sales. Everyone is welcome.

The groups meets on the second Monday of every month at 5:30 p.m. New members are always welcome.

There is also Coffee with Friends of the Public Library times every Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come enjoy refreshments, conversation, and to get acquainted with our Library.

Finally, there is an on-going book sale every day at the Maricopa Public Library,. Various types of books are for sale; hardcover, paperback, children's, and audio/video's. Books are located inside the main entrance of the Library. Donations are always welcome.
