Corinth mounts 'You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown' production for good cause

Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal - 6/8/2017

June 08--CORINTH -- They don't call it "show business" for nothing.

To help out with Corinth Theatre-Arts' upcoming season of productions, the organization is looking to increase funding with getting the gang back together.

In this case, it's the Peanuts gang. Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy and Linus can all be seen at the Crossroads Playhouse next week as CTA presents "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" as a fundraiser for its 49th season.

"We've got some pretty lofty goals for next season," said director Josh Steen. "We need to do a couple of upgrades as well to some of our tech equipment."

As they prepare for 2017-2018, with shows like Monty Python's "Spamalot," "The Glass Menagerie," and "A Midsummer Night's Dream," CTA hopes the Peanuts gang will invite audiences in to help offset costs.

"I've been familiar with the music from this show for a long time," Steen said. "It's timeless. These characters are well-known and loved and we have a group of actors that's super dedicated."

Steen will also play double duty as the piano-playing Schroeder in the production.

"This show is a good time for everyone," he said. "The audience will have a good time, the cast is having a great time and it's family-friendly. Not every aspect of theater is always family-friendly but this is a show for everyone."

In addition to the performances on June 16-18, the community theater will also hold a sensory-friendly evening of the show on Thursday, June 15 in conjunction with Reconnect 4 Autism.

"We have several volunteers that are heavily involved with Reconnect," Steen said. "We hope people will benefit from that and we're looking to see if it's something we can add to some shows later this season."

"You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" opens Friday, June 16 at the Crossroads Playhouse in Corinth. To purchase tickets, or for more information, visit corinththeatrearts.com.
