5 things: Washington Female Veterans of Wenatchee

Wenatchee World, The (WA) - 10/22/2014

Oct. 22--By Dee Anne De Angelo

My name is Dee Anne De Angelo and I started the Washington Female Veterans of Wenatchee this spring. It is a way for female veterans to get together, communicate and to be a part of their community.

The Wenatchee Valley has an amazing veteran population. I want these ladies to know of the many phenomenal opportunities that are available for us to help others and to receive help. I would like women veterans to be present in their community and to receive their "thank you" for all we gave to our country.

We currently have 20 members, and we usually hold our meetings at 6 p.m. every third Wednesday of the month. The Nov. 5 meeting will be held at the VFW Hall, 211 Northeast 11th St., East Wenatchee.

During the recent Wenatchee Veterans Stand Down, we reached another 20 women veterans. We hope to keep getting the word out so that more women veterans will stand tall and be a part of the shaping of their communities.

The military fair was a big success. We had four tents with women's clothing, programs and resources for women veterans in Eastern Washington, bags of toiletries and goodies, and free books for all the kids. The Wenatchee Beauty Academy was also there to pamper the women and men with haircuts and hand massages.

We will be marching in the Veterans Day parade on Nov. 11 in Wenatchee. Be sure to look for us there!

Our goal is to reach female veterans, get them to come together, and to remind everyone that women play not only a key role in the military, but also in our local community.
