Gerald L. Mccracken

Gerald "Jerry" L. McCracken, 92, of Manheim Township, entered into rest on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Betty L. (Kirchner) McCracken, who died in 2013. They were married seventy years at the time of her death.

Jerry retired from the Lancaster City Bureau of Fire as a Driver Engineer after thirty-five years of service. He also owned & operated Jerry McCracken Landscaping for forty-four years until retiring in 1985.

Born August 8, 1923 in Columbia, he was the son of the late Samuel and Catherine (Haller) McCracken. Jerry was a devout Catholic and a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church and a former member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. He was a 1942 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School. Jerry was a proud U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and a member of VFW-Post 1463, Lititz, AMVETS-Post 9 and American Legion-Post 34. He enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his wife in Oceanview, DE and Palm Harbor, FL.

Surviving are two children, Geraldine "Jeri" L., and Richard E. married to Karen, all of Lancaster; two grandchildren, nine great- grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul McCracken; three stepsisters and a half-sister. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Richard E. McCracken, Jr. (2007).

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 East Delp Road, Lancaster, PA 17601 on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 11AM. Interment will be in the Conestoga Memorial Park, Lancaster, PA with Military Honors. Friends may call at St. John Neumann Catholic Church on Tuesday between 10 and 11AM. Kindly omit flowers.
