Veterans invited to share stories in Jeffersonville interviews for Library of Congress project

The Evening News and The Tribune - 8/23/2017

Aug. 23--JEFFERSONVILLE -- U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly's staff are inviting veterans to share their stories next week at the Riverbend Assisted Living Community as part of the Veterans History Project.

The Library of Congress is leading the effort to "preserve the historic experiences of those who are served in the United States military by recording their personal narratives and archiving them for future use by historians, teachers and the general public," a news release stated.

The event is Thursday, Aug. 31 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the assisted living center located at 2175 Charlestown Pike in Jeffersonville.

"The men and women who courageously served our country have moving stories to share about their service," Donnelly stated in a news release. "It is important that we record their statements so that future generations have the opportunity to learn from their experiences and appreciate the sacrifices they have made to protect our freedoms."

Donnelly won't be present, but his staff will be at the center to interview veterans. The senator's office is also inviting people who would like to volunteer to interview veterans.

Veterans and volunteers interested in participating should RSVP by contacting Ryan Wiegand at ryan_wiegand@donnelly.senate.gov or by calling (317) 226-5555.
