Veterans Day events scheduled throughout Clark County

Nov. 05--With Veterans Day approaching, many community organizations are planning celebrations and ceremonies to honor the sacrifice of people who have served in the U.S. military. Looking for a comprehensive list of everything happening near you?

Read on for a calendar of events taking place across Clark County.

Today

Flag ceremony at Heritage High School at 9 a.m. Assembly starts at 9:30 a.m. Veterans will be doing classroom and lunchtime visits.

Tuesday

Yacolt Primary School choir students will perform at a pair of assemblies in the school gym. The first is a schoolwide assembly at 9:45 a.m., and a performance for parents will be at 6 p.m.

Wednesday

--Assembly at Lacamas Lake Elementary school at 8:30 a.m., with a family reception immediately following.

--Assembly at Burton Elementary School with Pacific Band. Kindergarten through second grade will be held 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., third through fifth grade will be held 9:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

--Assembly at View Ridge Middle School gym at 9:45 a.m.

--Assembly at Sunset Ridge Intermediate School gym at 1 p.m.

Thursday

--Veterans Day panel for Battle Ground High School students in the school library. Hosted by the Air Force Junior ROTC and the Social Studies department, the panelists will make a short biographical presentation to each class period throughout the day, and the invited classes will have an opportunity to ask questions.

--Assembly at the gym of Pleasant Valley Primary and Middle School at 9:30 a.m.

--Assembly at Union Ridge Elementary School in Building B commons at 9:30 a.m., with reception to follow at 10:30 a.m. in Building A gym.

--Assembly at Green Mountain School District No. 103. Doors open to the audience at 1:30 p.m., and there will be coffee and light refreshments for guests prior to the assembly at 2 p.m. Any and all veterans are invited.

--Skyview High School Band will honor veterans with its Apple Pie Concert at 7 p.m. Food costs $3 a plate, veterans eat free.

Friday

--Poppy drive held by the Camas chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Camas and Washougal Safeway stores. Proceeds to go toward the VFW's veteran relief fund.

--Student council members from the Washington State School for the Blind will hand out posters thanking veterans for their service at the Vancouver division of the VA Portland Health Care System.

--Breakfast for veterans will be held at 8:40 a.m. at Captain Strong Primary School, followed by a school-wide assembly at 9:30 a.m.

--Assembly for Cape Horn-Skye Elementary School and Canyon Creek Middle School at CMS at 9 a.m.Members of American Legion Cape Horn Post 122 will present the colors. The community is invited.

--Assembly at Hathaway Elementary at 9 a.m.

--Assembly at the gym of Pleasant Valley Primary and Middle School at 9:30 a.m.

--Assembly at Tukes Valley Middle School at 9:30 a.m. All Veterans and their families are welcome to attend.

--Assembly at Gause Elementary School at 9:30 a.m.

--Assembly at Ellsworth Elementary at 9:35 a.m.

--Assembly at Hockinson Middle School at 9:40 a.m.

--Assembly at Maple Grove School at 10 a.m. in the gym.

--Assembly at Chief Umtuch Middle School at 10 a.m. in the commons, where the school band will perform.

--Assembly at Daybreak Middle School at 10 a.m. The Battle Ground High School Color Guard will present the flags. All veterans in attendance will be recognized for their service.

--Assembly at La Center Middle School at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. in the gym.

--Assembly at 10:15 a.m. at Daybreak Primary School. Students will sing songs in honor of veterans.

--Assembly at Hockinson High School at 10:50 a.m. in the multipurpose room.

--Assembly at Ridgefield High School at 10:50 a.m. in main gym.

--Assembly at Laurin Middle School at 11 a.m. in the gym.

--Assembly at Liberty Middle School at 3 p.m.

--Assembly at Skyridge Middle School at 3 p.m.

Saturday:

--The annual Lough Legacy Veterans Parade. This year, the parade begins at the east end of Officers Row at East Reserve Street. It will head west along Evergreen Blvd., past Officers Row and Providence Academy into downtown Vancouver. Sunday: Veterans Day

--Flags raised along the route from the Camas Georgia-Pacific paper mill to the Camas-Washougal Fire Department by the Camas chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Flags to be raised at 8 a.m. and taken down at 5 p.m.

--"Bells of Peace: A Remembrance," will be held at 11 a.m. at The Historic Trust of Vancouver as part of a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the World War I Armistice. The World War One Centennial Commission is commemorating the landmark nationwide by inviting individuals, organizations and landmarks to join the Washington National Cathedral in tolling its bells 21 times in honor of the more than 100,000 Americans killed in the war. Monday, Nov. 12

--School closed for: Battle Ground Public Schools, Camas School District, Evergreen Public Schools, Green Mountain School District, Hockinson School District, La Center School District, Ridgefield School District, Vancouver Public Schools, Washington School for the Deaf, Washington State School for the Blind and Washougal School District.

Tuesday, Nov. 13

--Assembly at Grass Valley Elementary School at 8:15 a.m.

--Assembly at South Ridge Elementary School cafeteria at 9:20 a.m.

--Assemblies at Helen Baller Elementary School at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

--Assembly at Prairie High School at 9:45 a.m. in the auditorium. The Prairie High School Air Force Junior ROTC will be presenting.

Wednesday, Nov. 14

--Assemblies at Glenwood Heights Primary School at 1:50 and 2:50 p.m. Both assemblies will feature the school's Cubby Choir, and the Prairie High School Air Force Junior ROTC will present the colors as well as perform a rifle routine. Veterans who attend will be honored.

Through Friday, Nov. 30

--Farmers Insurance is collecting new and gently used men's and women's business attire during its Suits for Soldiers campaign. Donations can be left at the Farmers Insurance district office at 3925 N.E. 72nd Ave., Suite 104, Vancouver. The office is open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
