Focus on Firelands Counseling & Recovery Services

Norwalk Reflector - 8/10/2020

Aug. 10--NORWALK -- The Huron CountyBoard of Mental Health and Addiction Services has been highly focused on increasing community engagement and outreach in an effort to raise awareness and education regarding the supports and services available in Huron County related to mental health and addiction.

This week, the board highlights one of its local treatment providers, Firelands Counseling & Recovery Services.

Firelands Counseling & Recovery Services began offering services in Erie County in 1987 and quickly expanded to Huron County in 1989. FCRS of Huron County is located on the Fisher-Titus campus on Benedict Avenue in Norwalk. The Norwalk office consists of about 25 staff and they currently are looking to fill vacant positions for clinicians.

FCRS offers a variety of services in Huron County such as:

--Same Day Assessments

--Case Management

--Individual Therapy

--Group Therapy (Stepping into Recovery, Intensive Outpatient Program, Aftercare)

--Education & Consultation

--Vocational Services

--Family Support Program (individuals affected by Covid-19)

--Psychiatric services

--Mental Health Day Treatment

--MAT (Medication Assisted Treatment)

--Prevention programs such as QPR and Mental Health First Aid.

--FCRS also currently operates two grants that benefit residents of Huron County.

These grants are:

--SOR (State Opioid Response) Grant: This grant created a position at FCRS for a "Recovery Navigator". This staff member helps reduce barriers to treatment for individuals with an Opioid Use Disorder diagnosis by linking them to additional resources such as child care and transportation.

--MAT 6 Grant: This grant is utilized to increase services in the Huron County Jail. This allows for MAT (Medication Assisted Treatment) to be offered to inmates to reduce drug use upon release. This grant also assists individuals in linking with needed services after incarceration.

FCRS also operates the Huron County Crisis Hotline. This hotline is available to anyone who is in crisis and in need of help. This hotline is available 24/7 and is staffed by trained clinicians.
